After all the lottery anticipation died down, (I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who did not buy a ticket), the country stood still yet again as the Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences announced this years Oscar nominations. Announcing the nominees in two groups, starting with categories like documentary, mixing, editing, and screenwriting, the Academy finally released the closely watched categories- best acting, directing and pictures.
Leading this year’s Oscar nomination is The Revenant with 12 nominations, followed by “Mad Max: Fury Road” with 10 nominations; both being up for Best Picture. Other nominees in this category include the films “Spotlight,” “Bridge of Spies,” “The Big Short,” “Room,” “Brooklyn” and “The Martian,” which is up for seven Academy awards. For the animated lovers, “Anomalisa,” “Boy and the World,” “Inside Out,” “When Marnie Was There” and “Shaun the Sheep Movie.” Unfortunately, “The Good Dinosaur” and “The Peanuts Movie” didn’t make the cut.
As for some of our favorite actors, like Leonardo Dicaprio, and Matt Damon are up for Best Actor in a Leading Role. As for our heroines, like Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett are up for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Other categories included in the nominations are Best Director, Best Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Original Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Foreign Film, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Effects and many more.
