Birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas are the times when you expect gifts. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day may even make the cut. But it’s time to kick it up a notch. Get past the usual flowers, cards and dinner. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but who doesn’t like things shaken up a bit? Here are a couple fun, quirky ideas to celebrate your spouse.
12 Days of Birthday
Say what? You heard it. Now, don’t think you have to buy extravagant gifts for 12 days, but you can still celebrate for 12 days. Let the note kick it off, “On the 12th day before your birthday, your true love gave to you…” (fill in the blank). Being practical for most of the gifts is the best way to go. A week’s worth of fun, quirky socks, his favorite cologne, a new boxer brief wardrobe, a handful of coveted candy or splatter guard for the kitchen because Bae always complains about getting popped. Be fun, be creative, and get the kids in on it too. They can help make gifts.
Getting the crew together for a birthday surprise could be nearly impossible. Instead of having a big party knowing many of those who should be there would not be able to attend, take it to cyberspace. Have your beloved’s closet friends and family send video messages on his birthday. It will be really cool if you can arrange it so that they have time slots and Honey gets messages every hour, on the hour.
Celebrate Their Way
Men would rather go beer sampling than have a nice, cozy dinner party. Throw in some Nascar, wrestling or basketball and they are happy. Just because you and Sweetie don’t have the same hobbies doesn’t mean you can’t still make it possible. Beyonce concert? NFL Sunday Game Day tickets? Right this way! Get a friend in on the magic so your Boo will have someone who will enjoy their company and the tickets as much as your Sweetie does.
Sometimes all you may need is a little downtime. Instead of always thinking you have to turn up for a holiday, do just the opposite. Try massages, half-days at the spa, or a night in a hotel so they can actually get a night’s sleep will be just the trick.
