When making it big, you often visualize a life of never having to spend the night studying, writing term-papers or figuring out complicated math problems again. However, more professions are making education attractive and necessary for candidates – God forbid the unexpected happens in your career, then you’re out of luck! Here’s a few celebs that decided to go back to school after they made it.
Tyra Banks: The model, actress and now “America’s Got Talent” host began her career when she dropped out of Loyola Marymount at 17 to walk in her first Milan and Paris fashion weeks early on in her career. To make up for the education she missed, she enrolled in Harvard University’s Owner/President Management Program where she earned a non-degree certificate and later became the boss CEO of Bankable Productions.
Swizz Beatz: Record producer and songwriter Swizz Beatz became famous directly out of high-school. The star, born Kasseem Dean, was proud about being accepted into Harvard Business School’s nine-week Owner/President Management Extension Program in 2014. He posted it to his social media account:
“This might be one of the happiest days of my life,” he posted. “From BX to Harvard.”
He had already produced hit singles for the likes of Nas, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and Bono. But being able to further his education is when he felt that he really made it. He graduated in November.
Tatyana Ali:“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star Tatyana Ali is another celebrity to reveal her plans of going back to school on social media. In April, she posted a photo of herself looking school-ready in a bun and cool specs and captioned it, “Here we go. Time to put it all together. #backtoschool #baywatch”
A fan asked her why she was going back to school when she’s already rich and she replied:
“There are some things I have to get under my belt so I can do what I’m planning to do. School is never a waste.”
Tia Mowry-Hardrict: Lately, Tia has been living happily ever after with her loving family and new sweet baby girl. The star graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in Psychology after the “Sister-Sister” show wrapped up, according to Cooking Channel TV. Congrats to her!
Tamera Mowry-Housley: We kind of get the feeling of wanting to keep the sisters together, they make it so simple. Like Tia, Tamera graduated from Pepperdine University with an honors degree in Psychology, according to her website.
Yara Shahidi: “Grown-ish” actor Yara has done so much since becoming a star and looking gorgeous while doing so. Not to mention, her 4.0 GPA average on her SATS and letter of recommendation from former first lady Michelle Obama is the epitome of black girl magic. According to Teen Vougue, the two became close after working together on Obama’s “Let Girls Learn” education initiative. Yara decided to go to Harvard University just like Malia Obama.
Nick Cannon: It’s no surprise that business guru Nick Cannon has made his way back to school. The “Wild’n Out” producer joined Howard University in 2016 and is planning to graduate in 2020 with a degree in communications. Nick Cannon told the New York post:
“I have friends, mentors, and colleagues who attended Howard University. I have heard about the famed Howard Homecoming since I was a kid growing up in California and knew that Howard would be the perfect place for me to further my education,” he said.
Shaquille O’Neal: Shaquille O’Neal came a long way from growing up in Newark, NJ. He left Louisiana State University in 1992 to go pro, but he eventually went back to school for seven consecutive summers and got his Bachelor’s Degree from LSU as he promised his parents and coach that he would in 2000.
Lloyd: R&B Singer Lloyd went back to school to get his G.E.D. and posted a photo of himself during the Therrell High School graduation ceremony in Georgia. The star took a hiatus from the music world and decided to complete a chapter in his life. Now the sky is the limit for you, Lloyd!
