Welcoming a family member to stay the weekend? Preparing for an overnight guest shouldn’t be a daunting task. Here are seven ways to make sure your visiting guests feel like they are at home away from home.
Make sure it’s clean, fresh and comfortable. Also, leave extra sheets and blankets in case your guest is cold-natured.
Closet and Drawer Space
Have an area available for your guest to unpack. Clear out space in the closet or clean out a couple of drawers for your guest, if they need it. You can also provide a place for them to place their suitcase for easy access during their stay.
Make sure your guest has access to plenty of towels and washcloths. Having a container of toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, feminine hygiene products, lotion, disposable razors, chap stick, pain relievers and other medicine, earplugs and sleep masks) is a welcoming gift to have in case one forgets an item. If you’re able to do so, provide a robe for your guest as well. Want to be super-thoughtful? Place a plug-in nightlight in the bathroom to help them guide their way in the middle of the night if needed.
Books and magazines left on the bedside table can help entertain your guest as they unwind for the night.
What’s the point of leaving reading material if they don’t have a bedside lamp? Add extra lighting for convenience with a bedside lamp.
Always let your guests know where to find items that are not at their immediate disposal, if needed. Making sure your overnight guests have everything they can think of at their fingertips will make them feel like they are at home at all times.
