After the luster of being married has worn off and wedding rings have scratches from wear (both literally and figuratively), some couples struggle with their decision to stay married. It is good to have reminders of why you said, ‘I do’ in the first place. Here are 5 reasons to cherish your marriage.
You have someone to grow old with. It may not seem like such an exciting idea at first, especially if you got married in your 20’s and 30’s, however, as you age, life starts to happen. You lose friends and family to death; circumstances can sometimes over take you; and eventually, the kids move away and start their own families. In the midst of all of that, it feels really good to know that you have someone to share your golden ages with.
A spouse can make you laugh even when you don’t want to. How cool is it to have someone who can brighten even the darkest of moments? You’re mad, feeling the pain and want to wallow in your disappointment. But, you have a spouse who is down for you and won’t let you. Your spouse knows exactly how to put a smile on your face – even when you try your hardest to fight it.
You don’t have to hold your farts anymore. Ok, so this may be TMI, but there is something wonderful about not having to hold in your farts for the fear of being less-desirable to your mate. We all fart. Yes…even you. So having a lover who understands that you’re…well…human is pretty awesome. And this point goes even deeper. No matter what your quirks are, being in a committed relationship with someone who loves and accepts you means they can look past the craziness you bring, to let you be your unapologetic self.
You can prioritize your favorite person without feeling bad. The girls want to go out for drinks, or the boys want to watch the game. First things first, call Bae to see if they have something planned. Why? You’d rather be with them than anybody else.
You complement each other. Iron sharpens iron. Read: Bae’s got your back! The strengths you have balance Bae’s weaknesses and vice versa. Together, you fit like two pieces of a puzzle. You push each other, defend one another and encourage each other’s greatness.
It’s you and Bae against the world! That is how you felt on day one, and with consistent effort, that is how you can always feel. Marriage is not easy, but well worth it. So, the next time hubs or wifey taps on that nerve, take a deep breath and think of all the reasons your life is better with them.
