If you don’t know Danielle Brooks – you must be living under a rock! The Orange Is The New Black star was featured recently on the cover of Ebony Magazine’s “Body Brigade” alongside Jazmine Sullivan, Gabi Fresh and Chrisette Michele. Danielle shows that you can be celebrated not only because of your size, but because of your beautiful skin. Dark skinned plus size women are often given the short end of the stick and are under represented in the beauty world. Danielle shines light on those under represented.

Yoliswa Mqoco is a South African stylist making moves as a proud gay woman of color. In a society where fashion and style is euro-centric, Yoliswa chanels many inspirations and is unapologetic about who she is. She along with 7 other women were celebrated in the #JETLOVEYOURSELF Valentine’s Campaign, which encouraged women loving themselves regardless of their size. Yoliswa continues to break barriers for many South African women of color who also belong to the LGBT community.

Ashley Graham is no stranger to print and digital media. She recently broke the mold and became the first Plus Size Model to cover Sports Illustrated Magazine. The magazine usually covers celebrities and models that do not fall under the plus size category. The issue was a sign of the times when being fit equaled being thin. It’s a great change and mental shift, because many women would take on unhealthy habits to attain a size they may never be.

Lesego Legobane, also known as “thickleeyonce” is a talented photographer from South Africa. Judging from her IG bio, Thickleeyonce is not here for your validation. While shooting amazing images for the South African elite, she addresses every standard of beauty deeply rooted in society – the notion that limiting the options of being pretty to categories like “thin” or “fat” shouldn’t be society’s norm. Surprisingly that notion is not received well as many have chastised her as a man-hater and bra-burning-diesel-dyke. Regardless of the naysayers she is unapologetic and is confident in who she is!

Katie Knowles is a plus size model from across the pond. What makes her so special is not the fact that she already is beautiful, but the fact that she is a law student who managed to overcome all the odds to become a model. Katie was told she would never walk again. She lost the ability to move her legs because she has a rare spinal condition called spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spine, which caused the discs in her spine to degenerate. With all of this on her plate, Katie still managed to star in commercial shoots and continues to transform the way we perceive beauty. Katie continues to slay with her “glamsticks” (crutches), showing many other women that the ability to be beautiful doesn’t start with physical challenges.
