Making my highlight bling is probably my favorite part of my makeup routine. It’s a quick way to take your look from 0 to glow goddess, and it’s a definite conversation starter. Highlighting, or illuminating, is the art of adding glow to the parts of your face where you would be “kissed” by the sun. These areas include the highest parts of your cheeks, the bridge and tip of your nose, your Cupid’s bow, brow bone, and forehead.
I have golden undertones, so it’s important for me to find highlighters that have a golden sheen to them, which would work best for my skintone. Highlighters that reflect silver can sometimes make medium to deep tones look ashy. However, this list of highlighters is sure to make you bling.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit “That Glow” $40
This glow kit is definitely a great buy because it comes 4 highlighters—Sunburst, Golden Bronze, Bubbly, and Dripping in Gold—which work very well for medium and deep skin tones. These powders are silky in texture and can be used alone, or combined, to create a unique glow.
MAC Cosmetics Mineralize Skinfinish in “Gold Deposit” $32
This super bronzy highlight works exceptionally well for golden and olive undertones. I especially love seeing Gold Deposit on deep skin tones because it makes deeper tones look like they’re glowing from the inside out!
MAC Cosmetics Cream Colour Base in “Improper Copper” $22
This creamy highlight is one of my favorite highlighters because it is so easy to blend. This highlighter can be used alone, or it can be layered for added intensity.
e.l.f. Cosmetics Baked Eyeshadow in “Enchanted” $3
Makeup products can have multiple uses and this eyeshadow is no exception. “Enchanted” is a great golden shade and the price makes it even better.
NARS Illuminator in “Laguna,” “Orgasm,” or “Super Orgasm” $30/each
These liquid illuminators can be applied with your fingers or a BeautyBlender. You can mix these in with your moisturizer for an all over glow, or you can dab some on specific areas and blend them into the skin for a shimmer effect.
Becoming a glow goddess or glow mami is as simple as choosing the right highlighter that works with your skintone. But whatever you do, do NOT be afraid to really pack your favorite highlighter on, as highlight blinging is not for the faint of heart!
