The BET Hip-Hop Awards aired last night, and it was definitely explosive! For the first time, the annual award show was held in the 305 and paid tribute to the Miami rap scene. So it was only right that Miami native, DJ Khaled, hosted the show.
The We the Best DJ opened the show with his iconic anthem, “I’m So Hood.” He brought out his fellow Floridians T-Pain, Rick Ross, Plies and Trick Daddy to get the show started.
Cardi B was absolutely the star of the evening, locking down the first award of the night for “Hustler of the Year.” Bardi accepted her award wearing a beautiful studded gown as she thanked her fans and let us know that she “worked hard for this.” Cardi B’s other wins included Best New Artist, Single of the Year, Best Mixtape and The Made You Look Award for her fashion. She was sure to shoutout her boo Offset during her speeches.
Performers included Migos, Playboi Carti, Cardi B, and the performance of the night came from Uncle Luke’s “I am Hip-Hop Award” tribute! Uncle Luke’s energy was back like It never left! Luke had the audience on its feet as he performed a mesh of all of his up-tempo hits! To help pay tribute, Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, and Trina came to perform as well. Trina looked like a million bucks, literally, in her blinged out ensemble.
Other moments throughout the night included little segments shining the spotlight on people in the Hip-Hop community who are giving back in times of tragedy. Of course, there was also the highly anticipated cyphers.
But aside from the cyphers,Eminem had his own personal freestyle and he SHUT IT DOWN like only Eminem could. In his politically charged freestyle, he confronted the protests within the NFL and he had a mouthful for the President, Mr. Donald Trump. He ended his freestyle throwing up a fist in honor of Colin Kapernick, letting the world know exactly where he stands.
Powerful, right! We’re President Trump will tweet about this!
The 305 showed out this year! We can’t wait until next year’s show.
