This year’s NBA All-Star game will be heading to the Dirty South – Houston, TX to be exact! As basketball fans prepare for the league’s most popular weekend-event, the starter line up was announced on Thursday.
Just a little background for those unfamiliar with how this all works:
Two teams of Western Conference & Eastern Conference players are put together by fans who cast the deciding votes. As any other voting system operates, the five players from each conference with the highest number of votes are selected to be on the respective teams.
And just like any other year, 2013 is comprised of the best in the NBA!
(*Disclaimer: Not to say those who weren’t selected aren’t great either… Like c’mon America, how could you leave out Tyson Chandler!?)
Now let’s talk about the actual starting line-up:
On the West’s All-Star team, Los Angeles dominates with four players making the cut. The Lakers’ Kobe Bryant (voted in 15-times consecutively as an All-Star start) and his teammate, Dwight Howard represent for their squad. While the Clippers’ Chris Paul and Blake Griffin hold it down together to make these two L.A. franchises the Western Conference standouts in the game. Joining the Cali players is Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Similar to their opponents in the anticipated game, the East’s All-Star team is comprised of two players from two teams – the Boston Celtics’ Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo (who makes his first appearance as an All-Star starter) will play together as their used to doing on the court. Defending champs, LeBron James and teammate, Dwyane Wade represent for the Miami Heat as their longtime friend, New York Knicks player Carmelo Anthony rounds out the group.
The East has a VERY interesting team… With all the drama that brewed last week between Melo & KG – though the two said they’ve resolved their differences – just about everyone’s excited to see how they’ll handle playing on the same team together.
Well, there you have it; the NBA 2013 All-Star line-up has been selected and sure enough the players are all ready to get it on!
The game will take place on Sunday, February 17th and air LIVE from Houston at 8PM on TNT.
